Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Denied Political Clearance for Paris Olympics Trip

Centre Refuses Clearance for Mann’s Diplomatic Visit to Support Indian Hockey Team

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has been denied political clearance by the Centre to travel to Paris for the 2024 Olympics. According to reports from PTI, the decision was communicated to Mann’s office on Friday night.

Mann had applied for political clearance to travel from August 3 to August 9, intending to support the Indian hockey team during their quarterfinal match scheduled for August 4. The refusal was based on security concerns, as Mann is a Z-Plus security protectee and his level of security cannot be quickly arranged for international travel.

Senior political officials must secure political clearance from the Ministry of External Affairs before embarking on international trips. The denial of clearance means Mann will not be able to attend the crucial hockey match in Paris.

Despite this setback, Mann expressed his pride in the Indian hockey team’s recent performance. On Friday, he praised the team for their historic 3-2 victory over Australia—a significant achievement, marking India’s first win against Australia since 1972. Mann lauded captain Harmanpreet Singh for his pivotal role in the match, highlighting his two goals that led the team to victory.

The Chief Minister’s congratulatory message reflected his support for the team, even as he faces restrictions on his planned visit.
